The one-day conference features a morning plenary sessions by leading scholars, and parallel workshops in the afternoon on 21st century world literature and regional literatures and the arts, which specialists will facilitate.The conference is capped by a book launch of poetry collections of outstanding young poets in English and Filipino, Mark C. Cayanan and Louie Jon Sanchez.Part IIAteneo Institute of Literary Arts and Practices (AILAP)SINE BUGHAW 2014Sine Bughaw is a weeklong festival that will showcase the works of Ateneo directors who have made a mark in contemporary Philippine independent cinema. Slated to run from February 18 to 27, 2014 at the Escaler Hall and Faura AVR of Ateneo de Manila University, this project aims to expose students from Ateneo and other schools currently studying Philippine Literature and Culture to the wealth of critical discourse and innovative approaches to contemporary social issues through the lenses of Ateneodirectors.The films to be screened are Alvin Yapan'sDebosyon, Dan Villegas' Mayohan, Paul Sta. Ana's Oros, Francis Pasion'sJay and Marie Jamora'sAngNawawala. Two-Day Poetry Reading and SeminarThere is a continuing desire among our youth today, especially those who have inclination to understand more about the ethnic literature of the Ilocanos. We made it a point that due to their demand to study more about the literature, we wanted them to satisfy their curiosity and inquisitiveness.The Ilocano literature is an art with the ethnic culture and tradition. You may find the richness of our culture by way of reading book of anthologies, pamphlets, and unpublish literary documents written by Ilocano writers today. So it would be interesting and to savoring the desire of our young aspiring writers to have an access to all these entire written short stories, poems, and novels. Hence, as beginners, they need guidance and letting them to know the basic component of wiring. We schedule for them a two-day Ilocano poetry reading to enable them to appreciate poetry through correct pronunciation of Ilocano words and with good delivery. In addition, a seminar on children’s poetry writing will be scheduled and the attendees are school teachers who are very eager to know the mechanics on how to write children’s poem.Objective1. To support the desire of our young children to appreciate the beaty of Ilocano poems.2. To teach them how to express Ilocano words correctly.3. To let them understand what the poems conveyed to them.4. To let them know the growth and development of Ilocano literature that began during the Spanish Era.5. To inculcate into their minds the importance of literature in the lives of men.The NCCA-NCLA Taboan Satellite Project sponsored the two-day Poetry Reading and Seminar in cooperation with the GUMIL- Ilocos Norte, Dep Ed Currimao, Ilocos Norte particularly Doña Josefa E. Marcos Elementary School which its aim is to inculcate into the minds of the children the importance of Ilocano poetry reading and writing Children’s Poetry in line with the Mother Tounge Based- Multiligual Education ( MTB-MLE).

Literary Map of Bicolandia, Bicol satellite project of the 2014 Taboan Philippine Writers FestivalThe road map project shall to be a critical stock-taking of the significant literary productions in the region, its traditional literary forms, as well as a record of the trends and movements in the local literary scene today.By producing a user-friendly road map that can provide students and travelers a guide to Bikol literary history and culture, this year’s initiative is geared towards winning wider adherence for Bikol literature.

Dayaw-Taboan FestivalFeatured Activities:The Regional Taboan satellite activity this year for Eastern Visayas takes a new twist. Unlike in the previous years, a fusion between Katig Writers Network Inc. and the Leyte-Samar Heritage Society Inc., in cooperation with the SCCTA-Dayaw headed by Prof. JoycieAlegre, is its new face. It is dubbed as Dayaw-Taboan Festival which will be held on February 7-8, 2014 in UP Tacloban. It features a literary conference, poetry exhibit, poetry performances, creative writing workshops, traditional rituals, and photography exhibit of Post-Yolanda Tacloban. The guest speaker of this rare gathering of writers, artists, cultural workers and teachers is none other than, the national artist for literature-- Dr. BienvenidoLumbera. Meanwhile, in order to boost the writings of the Abaknon people, the 3rdInabaknon Creative Writing Workshop will be held on February 15, 2014 in the island municipality of Capul, Northern Samar. In general, highlighting this festival is the BakhawhanPaglaum (Mangrove of Hope)--a mangrove tree planting activity on February 8, 2014 at 8:00 AM in Brgy. Baras, Palo, Leyte, one of the worst-hit coastal barangays facing Leyte Gulf. Various state universities in Eastern Visayas are enjoined to take part in this celebration.
East and South Mindanao
In celebration of National Arts Month, the Davao Writers Guild holds a community outreach project funded by the National Commission on Culture and the Arts entitled “KUMBIRA! Taboan 2014 Satellite - Southern Mindanao.” This year, the DWG reaches out to the underserved community in Kapalong, Davao del Norte by partnering with Kapalong College of Agriculture, Sciences and Technology in a roundtable discussion and literary reading to be held on 15 February 2014. Members of the Davao Writers Guild, including TitaLacambra-Ayala, Aida Ford, and Macario Tiu discuss their insights on the writing and teaching of literature in Mindanao then read from their own works. In line with the theme of Taboan 2014, “Wind and Wave, War and Words,” we focus on writing about the local milieu and how, through language, we render meaning to the tragedies—e.g., the Zamboanga siege, Bohol quake, Yolanda—our country suffers.

HALAD 4 celebrates four years of literary activities in the MSU-Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU-IIT) in late February 2014. Haladmeans “to offer or an offering” in Sebuano.Halad is a two-day celebration to likewise celebrate the Arts Month.On Day One, a Lecture Seminar on the Importance of Teaching Literature is held for teachers and students of MSU-IIT and for the general community. The topics during this Lecture-Seminar which will also include teaching demonstrations by the lecturers are: “Teaching Poetry”, “Teaching Fiction”, and the “Teaching of the country’s Regional Literatures”.Day two includes Literary Readings of works by Mindanao writers and other works by writers from the regions, and a Poetry Slam Competition for beginning writers. The winners will receive cash prizes.

Levanta: The 1stZamboangaFliptopShowdownFliptopis perhaps this generation’s answer to the balagtasan. A craze among youngsters, it is a creative exchange of opinions done in a public venue and by means of rap. Participants debate on a wide variety of topics ranging from the mundane to the socially relevant.The craze has been observed to have permeated Zamboanga City in the past two years. Droves of young people gather every weekend at Paseo del Mar, a famous landmark, and listen to fliptop battles in Chavacano, the city’s lingua franca.In 2013, Zamboanga witnessed one of its gloomiest years as the city was marred by hostilities. Among the most affected were the youth---some of whom lost their families, their families’ livelihood, their homes and maybe even their future.This year, Zamboanga’s satellite uses fliptop as an avenue forZamboanga’s youth to levanta, Chavacano for rise. Thru this modern take on literature, Taboan hopes to provide a creative outlet for the views of La Bella’s young people.
